Eighth Graders Choreograph Dance Routines

Groups of eighth grade students recently performed their final dance projects for the Middle School community at our Opening gathering. For this project, students chose a piece of music and using their knowledge of dance, worked collaboratively to choreograph a dance. Students were encouraged to explore personal style and diverse genres. As a result, the styles ranged from modern dance with ballet influences to a 50’s throwback performance.

The performances not only entertained younger students in the audience, but also modeled incredible collaboration and teamwork. One student said of the experience, “Each individual was cooperative and had creative ideas of their own; when we came together, we were able to create a masterpiece that had a touch of everyone’s personality captured in the dance.”
