Second Grade Invention Convention

Our second grade students brought in an impressive crowd to their invention convention this year! This unit first began with a series of student-led interviews with our faculty and staff, to determine what challenges on campus their inventions would tackle, like the distracting loud sound of the leaf blower. In the weeks that followed students learned how to make renders of their inventions in Pic Collage, film and edit Kickstarter videos in iMovie, and build prototypes with various materials from our Makerspace. Second grade students designed a variety of ways to solve the leaf-blower sound issue, like sound proofing tiles to go over the windows, alternative machines that would help to collect the leaves with less noise, and even a structure that could wrap around the trees to capture and compost the leaves. We can’t wait to see what these inventors think of next!
