This year, the members of our Keys School H.E.L.P. Club (Helping Everyone Live Prosperously) have volunteered their time during recess periods to tend the plants on the Middle School rooftop garden and learn about the benefits of urban agriculture. To date, H.E.L.P. has donated over 26 pounds of fresh produce to Second Harvest, including kale, spinach, carrots, and radishes.

Club members were recently honored as local “Hunger Heroes” by The Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Clara and San Mateo counties. The program acknowledges and celebrates local groups for their exceptional generosity and their boundless drive to make hunger a thing of the past.

The Keys School H.E.L.P. Club is a student-run Middle School club whose mission is to give back to the larger community through public service and volunteerism. Throughout the school year this group organizes food drives, fundraising events, marches and more, targeting important social causes and garnering support among classmates and teachers.

When asked about why she values her work with the club, seventh grader Meera noted, “Making a difference in one person’s life can be as small as donating a penny, but the fulfillment of helping is much greater. This is why I love H.E.L.P. Club.”
