Come to California!

4th grade students spent their time at the beginning of the year learning about persuasive language, and how certain words can be used to persuade people to do something, like do their chores or brush their teeth. Kelly Ritz, one of Keys’ fourth grade teachers, had her students recall times when they were persuaded to do something, and whether those experiences were positive or negative. Students also learned in their reading lessons how tone can often play into one’s ability to persuade. After their lessons in persuasive language, students complete a project in which they create a “Come to California” commercial, persuading their audiences to visit different regions of this state. This project ties together their lessons from writing, reading, and even their social studies classes, where they have been learning about the history of California. Here you can see a couple of our students working on their story boards for their commercials.
