Every year in December, Keys School welcomes the Mountain View High School Madrigals Choir to perform. It’s safe to say this is a tradition our community looks forward to and loves.
As we know, 2020 has made keeping traditions challenging. Due to the pandemic and distance learning, we weren’t sure if they would be able to visit and serenade us with their holiday-themed choral arrangements.
Thank goodness for Zoom and virtual concerts. All of the Madrigals members could not sing in sync over live video conferencing because of latency issues, so they sent music teacher Jill Denny their individual recordings. Their videos were professionally edited together to create the virtual concert we all enjoyed during the Opening assembly.
The Madrigals had a challenging year, completing most of the 60 to 80 local performances on their schedule live. When the pandemic canceled their trip to New Zealand in April, they learned about being resilient. They switched to this digital format to keep the music going. For now, we’re thankful the Madrigals were able to join us online where we could revel in the sounds of the holidays and their beautiful voices once again.
